You probably have multiples of your favourite lipstick and lip balm but with the temperatures beginning to drop and Winter on its way, we’ve enlisted Carol Mackie, M·A·C Global Senior Artist for Australia to share with us the beauty buys we need to start the ultimate lip care routine.

LIP SCRUBTIOUS: You only need to use lip scrub or lip exfoliant when you feel like your lips require it, and all you have to do is gently massage it over your lips and then tissue it off, explains Mackie. “I would recommend using the Lip Scrubtious at least twice a week, similarly to how often you would exfoliate your skin.” Just like your regular facial exfoliant, it will help to buff away any dry skin and prep the skin for any lip balm or conditioner to follow. “Lip Scrubtious is really a delicious product; not only does it smell and taste great, it’s also available in a number of different scents - I actually find it hard not to eat it!”
LIP CONDITIONER: A lip balm is always a must-have and Mackie loves M·A·C Lip Conditioner. She recommends that you apply it on a clean, bare pout so that it has time to absorb and condition the lips while you are applying your skincare and makeup. “Lip Conditioner tackles dryness in your lips and is both nourishing and conditioning, containing ingredients such as shea butter and avocado oil,” she explains. “I love the vanilla scent and how it instantly revives your lips – it also provides a soft shine, so I’ll often use it alone when I’m working on a client, shoot or show!”
PREP + PRIME LIP: Mackie swears by this lip primer. “Prep + Prime Lip acts like a magnet and allows our Lipstick and Lip Pencils to glide on super smoothly, locking them in place,” she explains. “It instantly smooths the skin without leaving it greasy, making it perfect to wear under any Lipstick but particularly matte formulas as it won’t change the finish.”
LIP BRUSH: Mackie calls a Lip Brush a makeup bag essential, particularly if you’re wearing a statement colour and you want to create a perfect lip. “A lip brush will an easy lipstick application ‑ I particularly like a 242s Shader or a 316 Synthetic Lip Brush,” she says. “Load up the brush with a good amount of product rather than putting just a little on the brush and it will apply a solid colour super-fast and not drag on the lips!”
